US is very much on the back foot.

Morocco is playing with a high press and the US isn’t really able to get out of our own half.

No and apparently VAR looked at and didn’t’ overturn it somehow?

Fwiw, Jason Anderson on twitter said the tv coverage did not do a great job at showing it, but in his opinion there was distinct contact to the back of the Moroccan player’s leg, which made it a clear penalty in his eyes. I thought it was a shaky call at first too, but I tend to believe Jason analyses when he gives them, so I’ll trust his judgement

I thought it was a PK, not a dirty one, but if you kick out and make contact like that, you can’t be a mile away from the ball

Robinson blew our best chance of the 2nd half a couple minutes ago then Zimmerman saved our bacon with a perfect tackle just outside the box otherwise the Moroccan player was in 1 on 1 on the goalie on a break.

Yeah, I almost blew my voice out yelling at him hours before a big job interview. I was livid

VAR confirms the 2nd goal. The ball didn’t go completely over the line.

Paredes got beat then failed to foul and then the US failed to close down.

Morocco outplayed us and deserve to go through to the medal round.

that penalty was super harsh….his arm was tucked in.

There’s another penalty…..that’s harsh….the arm is tucked….how the frack is he supposed to get his arm and hand further out of the way when his back is turned to the ball…

Nice run by USA men’s. Morocco is nasty good. The ref was kind of weird, but I doubt it matters. I saw bits and pieces at work, and we never seemed to be in control of things. Good effort, just not enough to put it all together. Cheers to Yow and Paredes!

It’s still a shame, cuz this was their chance to up their stock for the national full team. They did somewhat, but Morocco’s fullbacks revealed their current level a bit.

The question people will ask is, is Morocco 4 goals better than the US? The answer is, this squad is 4 goals better than the one we brought. I didn’t realize they brought Hakimi and an overage goal scorer, that they didn’t have another tournament this summer to conflict, and that France has a ton of expat fans.

Morocco dominated the game, not just the scoresheet. We did well to keep it close for as long as we did, but clearly didn’t have the juice to trouble them enough. I would have loved to see our young stars against this team, but Copa was a bigger opportunity to test our best. Anyway, well done, and well played, Morocco.

Good experience for the US Men’s Olympic team. They basically played an away match to Morocco (huge expat population in France). They played a scheme which the US has to master to beat the best teams in the world (compact, defend, counter) at times. Some of our talent (Yow, Paredes, Mihailovic) really stepped up and performed well much of the time. I think the US “C” team (and that’s basically what this side was) has benefited from this experience, especially given the lack of competitive games between now and the WC.
