D.C. United vs. FC Cincinnati: Preview, time, and how to watch
As D.C. United faces FC Cincinnati, all eyes are set on three points. Winless in nine, the Black-and-Red are eager to put in a first-class performance in front of home supporters at Buzzard Point.
On Saturday night, D.C. drew 2-2 on the road with the New York Red Bulls, holding the lead until the 78′. The Black-and-Red displayed grit despite missing players and captured a point on the road.
Tonight, head coach Troy Lesesne said the team plans to “stay together just as we did the other night, and we’re going to fight for a result at home that our home supporters deserve.”
D.C. will have their work cut out for them. With eight players out for injury or suspension, the Black-and-Red go into the matchup with 2nd place Cincinnati shorthanded. To add to the challenge, Troy Lesesne is also suspended for tonight’s match.
Cincinnati, meanwhile, looks to net a win and take the top spot in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, dethroning Inter Miami. Cincy has won six straight on the road, adding to the danger they pose.

Let us know your thoughts about tonight’s match in the comments below.
Key Player: Ted Ku-DiPietro
We know, we said bet on Ted on Saturday. We aren’t changing our tune. We’ll look to the homegrown to give Cincinnati a tough time tonight. Ku-DiPietro has shown himself more than capable of stepping up to give D.C. United an edge.
Watch Out For: Lucho Acosta
Always watch out for Lucho Acosta. His dangerous style of play will pose a threat to the D.C.’s defense. The Black-and-Red faithful know Cincy’s captain well. He factored into much of D.C. United’s success once the team moved to Audi Field. His partnership with Wayne Rooney was one for the ages. Since leaving the District, Acosta has made a name for himself in Cincinnati, leading the team to a first-place finish in the Eastern Conference last season.
Challenges: The Black-and-Red are shorthanded again, leaving them vulnerable during a busy match week.
Previously: D.C. and Cincinnati last played to a scoreless draw at TQL Stadium in March.

Lemme see… ignoring the goalies, we have available
Murrell
KDP
Stroud
Klich
Rodriguez
Pirani
Peltola
Garay
Herrera
Bartlett
Akinmboni
Santos
Sargis
That’s it, unless I missed something somewhere. 13 guys for 10 slots, two of whom were just emergency recalled from the minors.
If (when?) Pirani is not starting tonight, we can close the book on him, in the sense that we will have confirmation that management no longer sees any value in him at all. Which will be sad, but is a minor sad that will be washed away in the torrent of sadness to come.
Didn’t realize McVey was back. Not that it changes much under the circumstances.
He subbed in late last game…
And he’s in the Starting XI
So whose ready for another loss as Lucho tears us apart?
So whose ready to watch Lucho Acosta tear us apart as he returns to Buzzard Point and we lose?
I’m sobbing. Here to watch live and in person. But we love Lucho…
Didn’t realize the first one went through…
Junior Moreno also makes his return.
Starting XI: Miller, McVey, Bartlett, Peltola, Herrera, KDP, Klich, Stroud, Santos, Rodríguez, Murrell
Bench: Crockford, Bono, Sargis, Garay, Pirani, and Akinmboni
Who’s your DC player to watch this match? I’m curious about who you’ve got your eye on to be a difference maker!
Well crap Miller screws up.
Wow Santos picks up a yellow for that…? It was a foul, but that’s a harsh yellow…
…got an ESPN notification of a yellow to a Cincy player in the 20’…but the feed was in the 17’…I checked and I’m live according to the stream.
Maybe it was the Loudoun game…lemme check…yup Loudoun game.
Rodríguez ties it! It’s 1-1.
Ref being inconsistent…
Apparently DC can’t do anything in challenges because the ref is gonna call it against us…
Damn…
My 8 week old has decided it’s not time to sleep, so time for daddy to hold her. At least my 2 year old is down for the night.
And the 8 week old has fallen asleep on daddy.
…spoke too soon…she spit up and woke herself up…
Pirani subbing in for McVey to start the 2nd half.
Miller challenged by Kelsy again, but this time Kelsy called for a foul and yellow card.
The field condition is giving me RFK flashbacks
Rugby next week won’t do it any favors if it’s already like this.
Man. Rodriguez has definitely proved me wrong the last couple of weeks. He looks pretty good as a partner to Klich in a deeper role and he’s clearly bought into the running needed for Lesesnes system. He’s still probably not worth his salary hit, but he’s been a bright spot the last two weeks.
He knows he’s playing for his spot on the roster.
He’s still not worth the salary. Too easily knocked off the ball in the middle, not enough raw pace outside. But it was a good game overall from him tonite.
Asad making his return to Buzzard Point.
And there’s the 3rd…that’s game…but go back to that potential pk
Pirani has forced 2 good saves tonight.
PIRANI! He pulls one back to make it 3-2
KDP is a wonderful talent, but he needs to be a bit better at not constantly driving at multiple defenders. It’s nice for him to do it some, but I’d like to see him just be a bit smarter about when to do it.
Great step and win off the ball by Rodriguez and then Pirani dances through two defenders to make it a one goal game again.
Stroud down off the ball…not good.
Akinmboni on for Stroud…
McVey picks up a yellow while sitting on the bench….
Hot take of the night: Santos is a better captain than Benteke.
And there’s another loss.
Much more competitive game than I was anticipating. They did decently overall. I’ll also continue to maintain my position of “DC should have re-signed Asad”
So nice of Pirani to read my declaration of his demise and take it as motivation for his best performance in the shirt. I’ll have to diss him more often, it seems.
