Hamid signed by Virginia Dream FC, Sullivan speaks on VAR, and more: Tuesday Freedom Kicks

Hello and happy Tuesday! I am very happy to be working from home on this rainy day and am hoping for a nice thunderstorm. I’ve tried to get a good assortment of news and entertainment to help you all pass the time, so enjoy.

First off, Bill Hamid has found a new home at Virginia Dream FC, in the fourth-tier National Premier Soccer League. They play in Falls Church, so it could be a short trip for anyone hoping to see him.

“Clear and obvious should be clear and obvious” Spirit start Sullivan decries long VAR checks (Pro Soccer Wire)
After 24 minutes of stoppage time had to be added to Sunday afternoon’s game, Andi Sullivan spoke about the impact of lengthy VAR checks.

Team of the Matchday: Mihailovic, Pec lead big Matchday 7 victories (MLS)
A D.C. United player has made TOTM once again. This week it’s Mateusz Klich for his performance against Montreal.

And I have another plug to give a Spirit player a vote. This time for Aubrey Kingsbury for Save of the Week:

Emma Hayes explains clash with Jonas Eidevall after Conti Cup final (The Athletic)
Things got fairly heated. Eidevall appeared to shout at a Chelsea player during a throw-in. Hayes then pushed Eidevall when he approached her for a post-match handshake and later accused him of “male aggression.”

Germany changing No. 4 on jerseys to avoid Nazi symbolism (ESPN)
Apparently the oddly-shaped number 4 resembles an SS symbol when doubled. Given how unusual 44 is for a player number, I have to wonder if the fans figured this out first.

Finally, I thought you all might enjoy this video of D.C. United players rating each others’ fashion choices.

Have a good day!

Hilarious video. Love the comradarie on the team and the joking.

And I agree with Sullivan. You don’t do VAR to “get it right.” You do VAR in-case this is a clear and obvious error that stands out. The 28 minutes for the Spirit match is unacceptable.

And Kingsbury deserves to win–it’s a double save on her part–very impressive.

Annie. Your news-packed Freedom Kicks deserves more than just one comment — however on target Joe W’s comments are — as they always are. Many thanks.
