State of the (District) Press
It’s hard to believe an entire year has passed since we went independent and rebranded Black-and-Red United as The District Press.
First and foremost, we would like to thank you, our loyal community. Without you, there would be no District Press. You believed in us when the future was uncertain and stuck by us, sharing our stories and spreading the word about the new site. We are proud to be your local, independent soccer media outlet.
2023 started off with a significant challenge but was full of accomplishments for The District Press team. We stood up a new outlet mere weeks before the Major League Soccer season kicked off and underwent a complete rebrand. Our team truly pulled together to ensure we could provide uninterrupted coverage for D.C. United, Washington Spirit, and Loudoun United.
This past year saw the launch of the Hey Spirits podcast and an increase in our Washington Spirit content. The District Press was credentialed to cover MLS All-Star and even went to the White House. We’ve also had the chance to work with and mentor two incredible college students who will surely shake up the soccer scene in the coming years.
None of these accomplishments would have been possible without your support.
We are excited to announce that there will be new ways to support and engage with The District Press and connect as a community in the coming weeks. Our community is our heart, and we look forward to what is to come!
Happy birthday, DPs!
With gratitude,
Sarah Kallassy, Managing Editor
